Two charged in break-ins at Laurinburg stores

LAURINBURG – Police arrested two men this week in separate break ins at local businesses.

John Franklin Ratliff, 39, of Eden, was charged after Laurinburg Police responded to an alarm at Nic’s Pic Kwik 14 on US 401 on Monday around 11:30 p.m.

Officers discovered that an estimated $177 in beer, cigarettes and chips had been taken from the business. During a search, some of items taken were recovered in an abandoned residence, police said.

Ratcliff was charged with breaking and entering and two counts of larceny after breaking and entering,

He also had outstanding warrants for motor vehicle theft out of Virginia and misdemeanor larceny out of Franklin.

Ratliff was placed in the Scotland County Detention Center and given a $50,000 secure bond, according to Laurinburg Assistant Police Chief Cliff Sessoms.

On Tuesday, Jody Neil Singletary, 37, of Laurel Hill was charged with one count of breaking and entering and one count of habitual breaking and entering after officers responded to an alarm at It’s Fashion Metro in the Holly Square shopping center.

Police said Singletary was caught trying to leave the scene. He was placed in the Scotland County jail under a$30,000 secure bond.

An estimate of damage to the store was not available.
