LAURINBURG — The Scotland County Sheriff’s Office and Laurinburg Police Department on Friday arrested a 20-year-old Laurinburg man for pistol-whipping someone on May 2, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

George Mitchell, of 410 Bizzell St., is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held in the Scotland County jail under a $2,000 bond.

According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Mitchell was convicted of his first felony, common law robbery, in 2011. He was convicted in March 2012 of illegally possessing a firearm, and in November of that same year of possession of schedule VI drugs and drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.
