MAXTON — A Laurinburg man was listed in critical condition late Monday after a shooting Friday at a Maxton convenience store, according to authorities.

Seth Anthony Strickland, 24, was shot outside the County Line Convenience Store on Red Springs Road just inside of Scotland County, according to Capt. Mitch Johnson of the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting occurred around 2:40 p.m. on Friday, Johnson said.

Strickland, who was inside a vehicle at the time of the shooting, was transported to Scotland Memorial Hospital and then to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Bryton Mathyia Locklear , 18, of Red Springs, was arrested on Saturday morning at a residence on Oxendine School Road north of Maxton, not far from the County Line Convenience Store..

Locklear’s relationship with Strickland is unknown, according to Johnson, and reports did not indicate the number or location of Strickland’s injuries.

Locklear is charged with two counts of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and discharging a weapon into an occupied property causing serious bodily injury.

He was placed in Scotland County Detention Center under a $400,000 bond.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives assisted with the investigation.
