LAURINBURG – Scotland County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man they say stole a vehicle from a Laurinburg company and fled town.

Lavern Kevin Baldwin Jr., 41, of Gilcrest Street in Wagram, was arrested for felony larceny of a motor vehicle.

Baldwin is alleged to have stolen a vehicle from Viorel Poptile on June 19, according to Capt. Ruben Castellon Chief Detective with the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office issued a fugitive warrant for arrest was for Baldwin, and he was arrested with the vehicle in another state.

“He got popped in Ohio for being in possession of a stolen vehicle, and when we were notified, we requested a fugitive warrant,” Castellon said.

Baldwin was extradited back to Scotland County on July 12.

He was later processed at the magistrate’s office and released on a $3,500.00 unsecured bond.
