LAURINBURG – A Laurinburg woman faces felony charges after police say she lead them on a high-speed chase to avoid a traffic stop.

Amelia Chavis, 33, of McGirts Bridge Road, has been charged with felony fleeing to allude arrest, reckless driving, reckless driving to endanger, three stop sign violations and driving left of center and given citations for: driving while license revoked, fictitious registration, no insurance, speeds in excess of 55 mph in a 35 mph and speeds in excess of 65 mph in a 55 mph.

Police said they received a call on Monday about a reckless driver on Lee’s Mill Road.

A Laurinburg officer saw Chavis run a stop sign, according to Assistant Chief Cliff Sessoms. The officer attempted to pull Chavis over, and she fled down McGirts Bridge Road, Sessoms said.

Chavis turned into the Outback ATV Park and became stuck in a field, police said.

Chavis’ car was seized and she was arrested and detained at the Scotland County Detention Center. She received a $20,000 bond, according to police.
