LAURINBURG – Police have arrested two Laurinburg men on felony gun charges following a traffic stop early Tuesday morning.

Brock Rush, 27, of Raleigh Street, was charged with two felony counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and open container after consuming alcohol, and given a $20,000 secured bond.

Tyquan Ellerbee, 28, of Covenant Way, was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and felony possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, and given a $50,000 secured bond.

Police stopped the car on East Vance Street for traffic violations and detected the smell of alcohol, according to Patrol Captain Terry Chavis.

“The driver, Rush, admitted that he had been drinking and a search of the vehicle was conducted,” Chavis said.

The search turned up two handguns, a 9 mm Jimenez Arms pistol and a Smith and Wesson .40-caliber pistol.

Rush has a criminal record dating to 2005 with convictions including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and communicating threats.

Both men are being detained in the Scotland County jail.
