LAURINBURG — Scotland County Schools elementary and middle school Robotics Clubs held a Lego Robotics Showcase last weekend at Sycamore Lane Elementary School.

Lego Robotics is an after-school program that teaches elementary and middle school children how to build and program robots using simple engineering and computer programming. Each elementary school in the district has three Lego robot kits, Shaw Academy had one and Carver and Spring Hill middle schools have five. The difficulty of the programming and engineering depends on the children’s age level. Since the program is in it’s first year it’s just an after-school program.

Student engineers from North Laurinburg Elementary School showcased their talents to the Scotland County Board of Education during their March Committee of the Whole meeting.

On April 8, students showed off their coding skills by programming their robots to complete basic tasks as well as maneuver the more complicated mazes and challenges. The teams will go on to compete against other robotics teams in the region at a competition in May that will be held in Moore County.
