Johnnie Dial, Jr., 34, was arrested at his Hill Street home in Laurinburg Thursday morning and charged with three counts of trafficking opium and one count each of possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of a stolen motorcycle and maintaining a drug dwelling, according to Investigator Scott Jacobs.
"These are very serious charges," Jacobs said, explaining the six-figure bond amount.
Scotland sheriff's deputies also served search warrants on the home, recovering 106 pills – 17 five-milligram percocet pills, 74 10-milligram percocet pills, 11 30-milligram morphine pills, three lorcet pills and 1 Xanax pill – spread out in two prescription bottles, a stolen 1997 Honda Ninja 1100, one gun and an unspecified amount of cash, Jacobs said.
The motorcycle was valued at $9,000 and was reported stolen to Greensboro police in 2002.
Jacobs said the arrest follows a two-month long undercover sting operation.
"During the course of the investigation, he was identified as major pill supplier in Scotland County," Jacobs said.
Investigators believe Dial was selling hundreds of pills each month.
"Scotland County and the neighborhood in North Laurinburg is a safer community because of this operation," Jacobs said.
Sheriff Shep Jones agreed with the sentiment.
"We received information that he was a major supplier of pills in Scotland and Robeson County," Jones said. "We were fortunately able to set up an undercover operation and get him off the street. His arrest will make Scotland County a safer place to live."
These aren't the only drug charges against the accused dealer. Jacobs said Dial was already out on a bond after being charged with six counts of possession with the intent to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance by Laurinburg police.
