LAURINBURG — Scotland County Genealogical Society recently presented Scotland County Memorial Library and The Scottish Heritage Center each with a $2,000 check, money designed to be invested in genealogical materials for use in their facilities.

Both were given compact discs for McMillan/Patterson/Buchanan Cemetery on Trader Road in Scotland County and for Douglass/Wilkinson/McDonald Cemetery on Snead’s Grove Road near its intersection with By-Pass North 401/501/15.

These discs are by John (Jack) Maxwell. The library also received a copy of “The First Peelle Family in America Since 1601,” by Horace B. Peele.

Scotland County Genealogical Society meets the fourth Monday night of January, March, September, and November at 7 p.m. in Scotland County Memorial Library. On a Saturday in May, the group visits a site of genealogical and/or historical interest and has a Dutch-treat lunch. Anyone can attend any and all meetings.

The next meeting is set for Monday. Sam West will present the program, “Church Records and Helps with Genealogical Challenges.”
