LAURINBURG — A city man is being held in the Scotland County jail under a $125,000 secured bond for the attempted rape of a 12-year-old girl, according to the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.

Dukborias Waters, 43, of 1012 Port St., was charged with felonious attempt first degree rape and felonious attempt first degree statutory rape.

According to a sheriff’s report, a deputy went to the victim’s home in response to a call around 3:30 a.m. that a rape had occurred.

The victim said that she woke up with Waters on top of her but escaped after grabbing a mirror and hitting him on the shoulder before taking her brother from another room and leaving the house. The two fled to a relative’s home and the girl told the relative that someone had raped her, according to the report.
