LAURINBURG — Valeriana Esteves Jute, formerly of Maxton Family Practice, has been named Medical Director of Scotland Regional Palliative Care.

She will be responsible for program leadership and planning and will visit regularly with patients in local nursing facilities where Scotland Regional Palliative Care provides services. She will also work closely with other medical providers to identify patients who could benefit from the care, which focuses on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of serious illnesses.

“I am very excited to join Scotland Regional Palliative Care,” Jute said. “I am passionate about working one-on-one with patients to identify their needs, meet their goals and ultimately, improve their quality of life. The opportunity to join Scotland Regional Palliative Care will allow me to do just that.”

Jute is married to Dr. Kurt Jute, a local opthamologist, and has two daughters, Samantha, 16, and Nicole, 14.

Jute earned her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed a medical residency at Suburban General Hospital in Norristown, Pa. She is Board Certified in Family Practice.

Launched in January 2012, Scotland Regional Palliative Care provides palliative care consults at Scotland Memorial Hospital and in several nursing homes in the area.
